Johnson Controls is a
leading provider of equipment, controls and services for heating, ventilating,
air-conditioning, refrigeration and security systems for buildings. The Johnson Controls location in Westerville has partnered with Westerville
Electric to become one of the locations for The Westerville Smart Grid and
Solar Pilot Project.
These sites, which also include the Westerville Planning & Development
building, Safex Training Center and West-Camp Press, have installed 3.5 kW
solar arrays and GridPoint Connect energy management appliances, which connect
Westerville Electric to each site and allow the users to monitor and control the
solar power production.
The Westerville Smart Grid and
Solar Pilot Project sites are being studied to determine how to best design, install,
inspect, size, fund, use and operate the system in a municipal power utility,
with grant funding from American Public Power Association and the City of Westerville.
The desired outcome is to provide some Westerville power needs from local solar
production and intelligent load control and load shifting and therefore
eliminate adding to the purchases of power from the grid and existing sources
as the city grows.
In addition to their solar installation, Johnson Controls will also be demonstrating energy efficient residential HVAC equipment, have radio controlled boat races on their pond, and have snacks to keeping you fueled up as you tour the rest of the Westerville Solar and Energy Efficiency Tour sites.
